WINTER FUN! – Outdoor Skating Rinks in LA

W Hotel rinkCHILL, your new boozy skating rink @ W Hotel Westwood, 930 Hilgard Avenue (310-208-8765), 21 and up.
Hours: Starting Sunday, ongoing through the winter. Mon-Fri, 3-10pm; Sat-Sun 10am -10pm
Cost: Bring your own skates and your figure eights will be FREE. Skate rental isn’t, it’s $10. The alcoholic drinks won’t be free either.
Details: “The W Hotel Westwood has created the winter wonderland our town sorely lacks, transforming its grounds into a simulated snow extravaganza complete with hybrid-ice skating rink and holiday-styled cabanas.” Woo hoo! I can’t skate, but I can definitely drink spiked pumpkin lattes with the best of ’em.

12th Annual DOWNTOWN ON ICE – Pershing Square, 532 South Olive Street
Hours: Open daily Thursday through Monday until January 18, 2010.
Cost: $6 admission (plus $2 for skate rental)
Details: From Yelp reviewer Diana L:

“Don’t expect Rockefeller Center. It’s Downtown LA for crying out loud. What you’ll find here:
small rink, completely open to the buzz and shattered dreams in the DTLA air
$6 admission + $2 skate rental
endearingly cheap and beat-up skates
diverse crowd and GREAT people watching
twinkling trees
usually hardcore Angelenos letting their guard down long enough to fall on their asses or clutch onto the wall, nervously giggling
live band playing party music, which results in people singing Bon Jovi on the ice

It is also within walking distance to various bars. I ended up walking from Pershing Square to LA Live after the rink closed. The whole night smelled of LA flavor. I likey.”

Have a good time! Just be sure you don’t forget about the flowers…

All I can say is… it’s not worth it. It’s super small, and you can’t even gain any speed on the ice. It’s kind of like walking with ice skates on. Additionally, it costs $10 for the skates (come on, who has ice skates?) and $8 for a small mug of hot cocoa. You won’t know that though until you order–there are no prices on the menu.

Don’t forget ICE at Santa Monica. It’s closed for the season, but try again later this year.

    $10 admission includes skate rental
